I have always wanted to do a «monthly favourites» type of post on this blog, but I kept putting it off some reason or the other. Last year, though, I finally decided to do it. I will be doing one of these every month (or every two months) and I will include literally everything that I loved or made me happy during that time, be it a film, a song, a TV show or anything else. Here are my July favourites. Prepare yourselves. There's quite a lot of them.
1. Stranger Things (2016-)
Stranger Things has become one of my favorite TV shows and season 3 was definitely the best one so far. It was so good! I especially loved the interaction between Steve, Robin, Dustin and Erica. Honestly, they should have their own spin-off show. I would totally watch that. I also really liked Alexei. Poor thing. He was too precious for this world.
A few months ago I saw some videos of Beth & Rio on YouTube and without knowing what show they were from, I just fell in love with them. I found out they were from a show called Good Girls and in July I finally decided to watch it. I saw the whole thing in like two days and now I cannot wait for season 3. Rio better be alive and kicking, because (1) I love Manny Montana, (2) Beth & Rio are the best thing on the show and (3) I freakin' LOVE Manny Montana!
3. La Casa de Papel (2017-)
I don't how many of you have heard of this show, but I'm telling you — you HAVE to watch it! It's about a group of robbers who carry out two carefully planned heists, one on of the Royal Mint of Spain (which is shown on Parts 1 and 2) and one of the Bank of Spain, which began in Part 3.
I devoured Parts 1 and 2 last year, and devoured Part 3 as well as soon as it came out on Netflix about three weeks ago. Honestly, La Casa de Papel (called Money Heist internationally) is one of the best TV shows EVER. It has such an intricate storyline. It's tense and humorous and thrilling and passionate, and it has the most outrageous plot twists. It's one of those shows that captures your attention as soon as you started watching it, and you just don't want it to end.
4. Graceland (2013-2015)
After I fell madly in love with Manny Montana while watching Good Girls, I was interested to see other things that he'd been on. One of those things was Graceland, which is actually a very interesting show. It's about a group of undercover agents who live together in the same house in Southern California. Besides having to deal with the strenuous nature of their job, which often lands in them in perilous situations, they also have to deal with personal relationships between them, which is really hard, because they all have very serious trust issues.
What I find most interesting about Graceland is the fact that it isn't a typical crime procedural show, in the sense that the cases don't get closed at the end of every episode, so a single case makes up for the arc of the entire season and every episode picks up exactly where the previous one left off. So, when you binge-watch the show, like I did, it feels like you're watching a film rather than a TV show and I really like that. It's a damn shame that this show got cancelled.
5. Manny Montana
I had never heard of Manny Montana until I watched Good Girls, but oh.my.God! I'm so in love with him right now! He's so handsome it's actually annoying. And he's a really good actor too. I absolutely love him as Rio. And he has such a beautifully raspy voice.
6. Aaron Tveit
I first came across Aaron Tveit in Les Misérables (2012) and I had a slight crush on him for some time after watching that film, but then I just kind of forgot about him — until I decided to watch Graceland and Grease: Live (2016) and I fell properly in love with him. Not only is he a incredibly talented actor, but he's also an extraordinary singer. I think by now I must have watched every single video of him singing on YouTube.
