I have always wanted to do a «monthly favourites» type of post on this blog, but I kept putting it off some reason or the other — until this year. I will be doing one of these every month (or every two months) and I will include literally everything that I have loved or that has made me happy during that time, be it a film, a song, a TV show or anything else. These are my February and March favourites. (I know it's April, but life has been busy, so I apologize for being late.)
1. From the Land of the Moon (2016)
For those who have not heard of it, From the Land of the Moon is a French film (originally titled Mal de Pierres) starring Marion Cotillard, Louis Garrel and Àlex Brendemühl. It is post-WWII drama about a woman (Cotillard) who enters a marriage of convenience to a man (Brendemühl) who had shown kindness to her family during the war. Constantly sick, she goes to a spa to recover and falls in love with a veteran (Garrel) she meets there. After they part, she considers whether to build a family with the man who loves her or re-kindle the lost bond with the man she loved while briefly away from home. BUT — there is a twist, which I was not expecting AT ALL, that alters everything. This is without a doubt one of the best films I have ever seen and I totally recommend you watch it. Marion Cotillard is an absolute goddess and as for Louis Garrel... well, I think I have found myself a new actor to stalk.
2. La Casa de Papel [Money Heist] (2017)
The world has been taken over by a little Spanish TV show called La Casa de Papel — and so have I. If you have never heard of it (which if you haven't, shame on you), the show follows a gang of eight people who are recruited by a mysterious man named El Professor («The Professor») to carry out the biggest heist ever: enter the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (the Royal Mint of Spain) and print 2.4 billion euros. In order to do this they need eleven days of seclusion inside the building, during which they have to deal with 67 hostages and the elite forces of the police. In between, members of the gang disregard the Professor's orders and make a mess, others fall in love with hostages, and even the Professor finds himself in a trick position after he falls in love the police investigator who is handling the case. So yeah, La Casa de Papel. Go watch it. Now. It is on Netflix under the title Money Heist.
Throughout February and March, there were two songs that I listened to pretty much non-stop and which I'm still slightly obsessed with: «Come Under the Covers» by Walk the Moon and «Everglow» by Coldplay. They are very different songs, but equally as good.
4. American Teen by Khalid
Khalid does not exactly make the kind of music I usually listen to, but I really liked his song «Young, Dumb & Broke», I thought I would give his album a try. And as it turned out, I genuinely loved it. Besides «Young, Dumb & Broke, my favorite song on the album is «American Teen.»
And this is it. These are the things that I have love throughout February and March.
Did I interest you in any of them?
